CARE is seeking an experienced Senior Director of Brand & Communications to oversee brand marketing, communications and creative development and asset management support for CARE. This position oversees the design, development and implementation of CARE's marketing and brand communications plans. These plans include but are not limited to target selection, brand positioning, message/content focus, advertising, public relations, fundraising tie-ins and signature events. S/he advises the organization on all external communications, especially those matters involving the media and broad public engagement, and collaborates with advocacy, programs and all fundraising teams to develop overall communications strategy. This position is responsible for establishing and maintaining external and internal relationships and the right communication protocols to quickly take advantage of global breaking news in an effort increase visibility of CARE's work. S/he also assists in developing a compelling "case" for support, including messaging and branding, for CARE USA and is a leading participant in the global messaging and branding process for CARE International. This position commands a team of 10-15 people, and is a part of the Individual Fundraising & Marketing leadership team.
Responsibilities
- Supervise, lead and support the brand and communications team and assumes all aspects of team management
- Responsible for the development, design, management and implementation of a comprehensive marketing and communications program, including all media
- Develop, execute and deliver annual brand marketing plans to improve brand health and support annual fundraising objectives.
- Oversight of all relationships with Private Support, including direct marketing, to support private fundraising
- Ensure written publications and audiovisual materials are consistent with CARE's core values and mission
- Foster communication and cooperation between and among the units within the Marketing and Communications Department, throughout External Relations and other divisions, and across CARE's global operations, including CARE International members and country offices
- Share successes and failures with CI and key federation partners.
- Serve as chief marketing and communications officer
- Oversees CARE's program liaison function
Requirements
- Strong interpersonal and management skills
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Strategic thinking, planning and organizing skills
- 10+ years experience in a combination of journalism, advertising and/or public relations settings
- Demonstrated track record in leading the development and execution of compelling messages
