Job Description
Major job functions and responsibilities: moves the material with a crane to his work area where he is responsible for putting a quality weld of the designated size on the material to be welded that meets AWS D 1.1 standards. Must be capable with power tools used such as a needle gun for spatter and slag removal and grinders for any cleanup and dressing required.

Mobility and weight handling requirements: must lift and carry weights in excess of 50 lbs., kneeling and extending the load to the machine rollers to reload his wire on the machine. Must be able to bend, stoop, kneel, squat and contour to any position required to place welds in various positions on the material. Must be able to lift and pull loads to hook up and move with a crane. Must be able to stand for long periods of time and walk with a load for intermediate distances without pause.

Vision: must have the ability to read small print on detail drawings and measuring equipment. Must be able to spot small deficiencies in the weld metal for correction.

Quality authority and responsibility: the welder must be able to complete his assigned project without missing any areas of weld. He must be able to check the weld for size, profile, and quality so it will pass final inspection by his supervisor. He is responsible for the safety of himself and surrounding workers affected by his actions from crane operation, weld flash, heat from torches, etc. He is responsible for his productivity and the quality of his work.

Job qualifications: pass a weld certification test in the weld procedure being used.
