The Senior Specialist, Child Protection, provides technical assistance to ensure quality child protection (CP) programs, with a priority for support to programs in Latin America, the Caribbean, the Middle East and Eurasia. Technical assistance will be provided in development and emergency contexts to develop, implement, improve, and evaluate child protection programs, and contribute to program learning and innovation. He/she will lead on child protection proposal development for supported countries. The Senior Specialist will contribute to child protection strategic directions and plans with a particular emphasis on reducing harmful child labor. The individual will develop and maintain key external partnerships with the other Save the Children US departments, other Save the Children members, donors, and others to advance and expand our work for children.

The preferred location is Washington D.C but would consider basing position in LAC or Middle East

Responsibilities


  • Provide technical assistance to country offices in formulation of program and country child protection strategies
  • Provide assessment, design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation support to country offices.
  • Build capacity of country offices and other sector staff to design and implement quality programs
  • Respond to emergencies and help country offices mainstream child protection issues into emergency preparedness response, recovery, and transition activities.
  • Provide technical assistance to child protection programs as part of SC humanitarian responses
  • Contribute to vision and goals for child protection portfolio, liaising with other program colleagues, other departments, and country offices, with a particular emphasis on developing strategies and programs that reduce harmful child labor
  • Represent Save the Children to external audiences and networks, especially those prioritized by the department, and play key role in linking with USG opportunities
  • Support development and submission of quality proposals in response to identified opportunities

Requirements

• Masters degree in a field related to child protection (social work, psychology, child development, education, sociology, anthropology, public health)

• Five years experience working on child protection related issues

• Field experience in development country settings, plus experience in emergency response deployments.

• Experience working in Latin America and/or the Middle East.

• Experience developing and supporting programs that reduce harmful child labor

• Strong writing and editing skills, including experience developing communication materials and proposals

• Experience in program implementation, monitoring, and reporting

• Ability to develop and conduct trainings related to child protection issues

• Strong documentation and information management skills

• Ability to travel, including deployment to emergency settings

• Ability to work in Spanish essential; ability to work in French or Arabic a plus.
