Background

Under the guidance and direct supervision of the Chief, Online and Multimedia, the Web Editor Consultant is part of the web team in the Office of Communications. He/she will contribute to the implementation of UNDP’s corporate strategy for the Web, maintaining the UNDP corporate website on a daily basis but also ensuring that UNDP’s web presence can significantly be enhanced over time. The consultant will also assist in supporting country offices in best practices around online communications, reviewing content and providing training.

Duties and Responsibilities

Editing / Producing


  •     Provide assistance in curating and presenting stories, images and videos in UNDP’s web content management system.
  •     Review and edit web stories, headlines and captions, liaising with the rest of the team to ensure consistency across languages.
  •     Work with content providers to research or rewrite material from the standpoint of reader interest, clarity, political sensitivity, thoroughness and accuracy, as well as relevance to UNDP’s focus area
  •     Provide direct support, including content reviews and training, to country offices and other units in online communications, particularly in the use of the Content Management System.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

    Master’s degree or equivalent in communications, journalism, international relations, fine arts or related fields

Experience:

  •     Minimum of three years of relevant experience in communications, journalism or multimedia, including significant experience with web publishing, including Content Management Systems, preferably Adobe CQ5;
  •     Experience training and coaching colleagues in online communications, particularly in the use of Content Management Systems highly desired;
  •     Working knowledge of photo editing software;
  •     Knowledge of online social networking highly desired
  •     Solid writing and editing skills in English; French, Spanish or Arabic is an asset;
  •     Previous experience in editing and presenting copy for the web;
  •     Previous knowledge of web content management system required, preferably Adobe CQ5
  •     Interest in global issues and the United Nations;

Language Requirements:

    Fluency in spoken and written English; French, Spanish and Arabic an advantage

EVALUATION:

Shortlisted candidates will be rated according to the following criteria:

Weight/Criterion

    40% - Previous experience editing and presenting English copy in plain language
    20% - Good understanding of online communications needs and excellent attention to detai
    20% - Knowledge of web content systems
    20% - Experience with multi-lingual content presentations, including French / Spanish or Arabic
    100%

NB: Only candidates obtaining a minimum of 70% in the Technical Evaluation would be considered for the Financial Evaluation

Cumulative Analysis will be used in determining the best candidate for this assignment. When using this weighted scoring method, the award of the contract is made to the individual consultant whose offer has been evaluated and determined as responsive/compliant/acceptable, and having received the highest score out of a pre-determined set of weighted technical and financial criteria:

Technical Criteria weight: 70%
Financial Criteria weight: 30%

OTHERS

No travel is envisaged for this assignment. As this is a local consultancy, UNDP will not cover the travel costs to duty station
