Kiva is a person-to-person micro-lending website. It is a non-profit organization with a mission to connect
people through lending to alleviate poverty. Kiva works with MFIs on five continents to provide loans to people without access to traditional banking systems. It is primarily funded through the support of lenders making optional donations.
About the Job:
Kiva is seeking a Portfolio Manager for Eastern Europe and Central Asia (ECA) to assist with ongoing expansion and partner monitoring. S/he will play a key role in growing and monitoring organization's portfolio in the region. S/he will work closely with key members of organization's ECA team based in San Francisco, USA.
Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Source potential partner organizations in the region working in organization's priority impact areas (e.g. higher education, water and sanitation, renewable energy, innovative agriculture, startup, and Islamic products);
- Develop relationships with networks and investors to build sector-specific expertise and source partnerships;
- Conduct desk review and onsite due diligence, as necessary, for new potential partner organizations in the region; to understand and assess financial management, social performance and mission fit with organization;
- Monitor portfolio quality through effective oversight including review of financials and portfolio reports;
- Strengthen partner capacity by highlighting microfinance best practices;
- Monitor partner use of funds to ensure that organization's capital is being used for maximum social impact.
Qualifications:
- BS/BA degree in Business, Finance, Economics or related field;
- More than 3 years of professional experience in the microfinance, international development, or impact investing;
- English language fluency required. Russian language knowledge is a plus;
- Highly flexible and able to adapt in a dynamic work environment;
- Strong individual initiative and ability to work collaboratively;
- Proven ability to think creatively about investment and social impact;
- High degree of comfort with Microsoft Office;
- Strong writing skills in English;
- Ability to deliver results on multiple priorities simultaneously;
- Disciplined, detail oriented, and accountable;
- Ability to interact effectively with people of other cultures, capacities, and organizations;
- Strong interpersonal and speaking skills;
- Ability to travel regionally up to 30%, including rural locations;
- Knowledge of microfinance best practices and lending methodologies and/or background in other Kiva priority impact areas (e.g. higher education, water and sanitation, renewable energy, innovative agriculture) is a strong plus;
- Flexibility to relocate to Istanbul, Turkey, should the opportunity arise in the future.
