ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The Senior MS SQL Server DBA position will be acting as primary Database Administrator for the planning, installation, configuration, tuning, recoverability, and production rollout of TNC's BlackBaud CRM (BBCRM) system. He or she will serve as one of TNC's primary technical resources for SQL Server database administration, architecture design and deployment practices, and must be capable of facilitating knowledge transfer throughout the department. This individual must not only be able to collaborate effectively with both TNC's internal IT department and BlackBaud's external support staff, but they will also inherit joint-responsibility in meeting the implementation deadline. This position reports directly to the Manager of Enterprise Database Operations and does not supervise any staff. A summary of the individual's duties is listed below:

DUTIES

I. DBA activities:


  •     Work with the Enterprise Database Operations (EDO), Enterprise System Operations (ESO), and BlackBaud support teams to validate hardware architecture and perform SQL Server and BBCRM software configuration according to best practices and documented requirements.
  •     Devise, implement, and monitor backup/recovery procedures, ensure backup integrity, and verify recoverability of all databases and transaction logs.
  •     Participate in the development of stored procedures, triggers, and other database objects necessary to support BBCRM in all development, test, staging, and production environments.
  •     Validate and enhance database and application security. Work closely with internal TIS Security staff and BlackBaud to define, modify, and implement MS SQL Server security procedures in accordance with the BBCRM application capabilities.
  •     Provide recommendations on high-availability technologies such as database mirroring, clustering, and AlwaysOn.
  •     Develop/monitor regularly scheduled maintenance jobs for all development, test, production, and supporting database environments.
  •     Monitor all Windows/SQL Server environments to ensure reliability and availability, including monitoring of storage and log space, scheduled maintenance jobs, connections, errors, etc.
  •     Report problems to Microsoft or BlackBaud support as appropriate, and be able to track and communicate the resolution status to impacted business users, developers, and testers. Must be able to follow-up with vendors to ensure the successful and timely resolution of open tickets.

II. Define & Develop DBA Processes & Operational Procedures

    Define and develop written documentation for all database and application implementation and configuration activities.
    Define and document the policies, standards, processes, and procedures necessary to support the production rollout.
    Recommend or design/develop operations and/or database administration tools and scripts as required.

III. Technical Advisory Role to TIS Staff and Internal Customers

    Provide MS SQL Server technical expertise through all phases of the implementation life cycle, including analysis, planning, testing, implementation, and post-implementation efforts.
    Work closely with the system administrators, application developers, and relevant BlackBaud personnel to identify operational and administration requirements, determine risks and issues, and define technical solutions as necessary during application deployment.
    Work closely with performance test representatives to validate technical approaches, support resource reporting during performance tests, and make recommendations for system/database tuning and optimization of key application components.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  •     Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS, Engineering, or in a non-technical discipline with work experience.
  •     6 years of technical experience with all aspects of MS SQL including SQL and PL/SQL development and Windows/SQL server architecture.
  •     3 years of experience administering large production applications, including capacity planning, performance monitoring, analysis, and tuning.
  •     Experience in medium-to-large off-the-shelf (OTS) package implementations
  •     Experience using SQL Server Clustering/High-Availability (HA) technologies

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • The individual must be able to oversee all SQL Server-related aspects of the BBCRM product installation in multiple database environments during the project deadline. They should possess strong technical knowledge of all aspects of the MS SQL Server RDBMS, an understanding of the SQL Server database architecture and how it interacts with the host operating system, and the demonstrated ability to perform all types of administration activities including advanced troubleshooting. Network configuration and connectivity between database environments, performance tuning activities, and the ability to administer and configure SQL Server backup and recovery operations is required. Experience with data migration between SQL Server and other database architectures is highly desirable. In addition, the following requirements will be necessary:
  •     Experience with the BlackBaud CRM product and Blackbaud's Infinity Platform architecture is preferred.
  •     Experience in client/server architectures and associated technical issues in a medium-to-large scale multiple database production environment.
  •     The individual should have significant experience in administering MS SQL Server in various production and non-production environments, be adept at using the supporting utilities (SQL Server Management Studio (SMS), SQL Profiler, Tuning Advisor, Performance Monitor, etc.), as well as possess in-depth knowledge of at least one of the following components: SSRS, SSIS, SSAS, and/or SSCM.
  •     The individual should possess an understanding of MS Windows, NTFS, RAID and SAN storage, clustering and high-availability solutions, and the fundamentals of networking, memory utilization, and other technical concepts as they pertain to database server environments.
  •     Proficiency in T-SQL and Windows PowerShell and/or other scripting languages required.
