The Associate Manager, Communications will provide support to the Communications function of the Corporate Marketing and Communications Department. The position is based in Washington, D.C. and reports to the Sr. Manager, Communications.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Provide technical communications support to PSI platforms and technical areas
• Liaise with technical health areas to ensure appropriate communications support and to obtain stories from the field
• Manage PSI’s external involvement in broader strategic communications initiatives and conferences that expand PSI’s visibility and further position PSI as a leading global health organization
• Manage communications-focused trips and events that bring together country platforms, targeted media, government donors, high-level supporters and celebrity ambassadors;
• Liaise with PSI platforms on strategic use of PSI ambassadors to meet local objectives and support donor initiatives
• Produce key messages and materials for PSI experts and other representatives for external communications opportunities
• Coordinate with senior communications staff and external communications firm to develop and execute a strategic public relations strategy
• Draft and place press releases and opinion pieces for executive staff and celebrity ambassadors
• Help organize and facilitate press conferences and other press-related events
• Research timely, relevant media opportunities for PSI and successfully gain coverage/placement
• Supervise the tracking and organization of media hits and collateral
• Provide input for Impact, the magazine of PSI
• Support Communications team with communications trainings, responses to sensitive issues to mitigate risk in crisis situations and press inquiries
• Supervise daily tasks of the Communications Assistant
• Other duties and special projects as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Business, International Relations or related field required
• Master’s degree in Communications or Public Health preferred
• 3-5 years writing and editing experience
• Media relations experience required
• Understanding of and experience with new/social media (Facebook, Twitter, blogging)
• Functional fluency in French, Spanish or Portuguese preferred
• Working knowledge of Adobe Suite and Dreamweaver
• Proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint)
• Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
• Understanding of international health promotion desired
Preference will be given to candidates with experience in marketing, and/or media relations and interest in international health and development issues.
