About the Organization:

Women’s World Banking (WWB) is an international network of MFIs in several countries to bring financial
services and information to low-income entrepreneurs. Its mission is to expand the economic assets, participation, and power of poor women as entrepreneurs and economic agents by opening their access to finance, knowledge, and markets. It seeks to alleviate global poverty by expanding the economic assets, participation, and power of the poor, especially women.

The Microfinance CEO Working Group (MCWG) is a collaborative effort by the CEOs of eight leading global microfinance organizations, whose impact is felt in several countries, and whose products and services are designed to offer support and opportunity to millions of low-income people around the world. Its members include Accion, FINCA, Freedom from Hunger, Grameen Foundation, Opportunity International, Pro Mujer, VisionFund International, and Women's World Banking.

About the Job:
The Microfinance CEO Working Group and Women’s World Banking are looking for an experienced Public Relations and Communications Manager who will spend part-time focused on communications development for the Working Group and part-time focused on the communications for Women’s World Banking. This will be an exciting opportunity for a candidate to craft and communicate industry-wide messages as well as manage an organization’s specific PR needs. S/he will report jointly to the director, global marketing and communications for WWB and the manager, MCWG. S/he will be based in WWB’s New York office.

Tasks and Responsibilities:
    Public Relations:

  •   Take core messages and develop a proactive media strategy, talking points on a variety of issues, and establish strong relationships with media in finance, business, leadership, women’s issues, and the international development space;
  •         Draft pitches, press releases, and blog posts, secure speaking engagements, uncover media opportunities, schedule interviews and briefings, work closely with the digital marketing associate to integrate social media, monit or and stay ahead of trends, and react to stories.
  •     Communications:
  •         Primary point of contact for all communications efforts and material development;
  •         Work in collaboration with the communications directors of each WWG member organization to:
  •             Finalize and implement a multi-year communications plan that ensures the group is an effective advocate;
  •             Proactively secure opportunities to disseminate the messages of WWG to key audiences, including practitioners, funders, and media;
  •             Develop a suite of effective communications materials, segmented by audience, and an informational website.

Qualifications:

  •     Minimum - BA/BS;
  •     More than 7 years of public relations experience, with a background both on the PR agency side and in-house as a PR and Communications manager;
  •     Association, finance, and/or international PR experience a plus;
  •     Experience shaping an industry association’s message and ability to influence target audiences’ opinion;
  •     Ability to take complex issues and craft appealing pitches for a wide range of media;
  •     Writing, editing, and interpersonal skills;
  •     Ability to manage multiple constituencies and develop effective relationships with diverse stakeholders;
  •     Computer literacy (Word, Excel, PowerPoint);
  •     Knowledge of social media
