Scholarship Title: Domestic Scholarships available

Successful applicants must commence by 31 August 2014.

Australian Postgraduate Awards are prestigious scholarships funded by the Commonwealth Department of Industry and provide an indexed stipend - paid fortnightly - of $25,392 (2014 rate) per annum. Additional benefits include paid sick leave, maternity/paternity leave, relocation and a thesis allowance.

To be eligible, applicants must:

·             be an Australian citizen, or a permanent resident;

·             have completed a Bachelor Degree with First Class Honours, or equivalent;

·             be undertaking a Higher Degree by Research;

·             be enrolled as a full-time student;

·             not hold an equivalent, or higher, research qualification;

·             not have previously held a Commonwealth-funded postgraduate research scholarship, unless it was terminated within six months of payments commencing;

·             not be receiving an equivalent award, scholarship or salary providing a benefit greater than 75% of the APA stipend rate to undertake the degree.

Successful applicants will also be awarded a Commonwealth-funded Research Training Scheme (RTS) place, which will cover their tuition fees.

University Postgraduate Research Scholarships (UPRS) 2015

Successful applicants must commence by March 31 2015 unless approved otherwise.

These scholarships are offered by Charles Darwin University to postgraduate research students undertaking projects that fall within the University's research priority areas.

UPRS are open to Australian and overseas applicants and currently offer stipend valued at $25,392 (2014 rate) per annum.

To be eligible, applicants must:

·             have completed a Bachelor Degree with Second Class Honours (Division A), or equivalent;

·             be undertaking a Higher Degree by Research;

·             be enrolled as a full-time student;

·             not hold an equivalent, or higher, research qualification.

Additional benefits include paid annual leave, sick leave and maternity/paternity leave entitlements, relocation and thesis allowance. Overseas applicants must be able to cover their course tuition fees to apply. Find out about the conditions of the award.

Scholarship Title: Enhanced Living & Relocation Allowance Scholarship 2015

Charles Darwin University (CDU) is offering generous PhD scholarships valued at up to $40,000 pa, including a relocation allowance and tuition fees paid.

Australian Postgraduate Award - APAs are prestigious stipend (living allowance) scholarships funded by the Commonwealth Department of Industry, Innovation, Science, Research and Tertiary Education (DIISRTE). The stipend is currently $25,392 (2014 rate) per annum and paid fortnightly for a maximum duration of 3.5 years. Additional benefits include paid sick leave, maternity/paternity leave and a thesis allowance.

University-funded Top Up - The University will top up the APA stipend to the combined value of $40,000 per annum, paid on a fortnightly basis, for a maximum duration of 3.5 years.

Research Training Scheme - Your PhD tuition fees will be covered by a Commonwealth-funded RTS place at the University for a maximum duration of 4 years.

Relocation Allowance - You will be entitled to claim reimbursement on eligible expenses associated with relocation to the Northern Territory, to a maximum of $1,500.

To be eligible for this Scholarship, applicants must:

• be a domestic student; and

• be relocating to the Northern Territory for the purpose of undertaking your PhD study in 2014; and

• have completed an Australian Bachelor Degree with First Class Honours, or be regarded by the University as having an equivalent level of attainment; and

• be enrolling as a full-time student to undertake a PhD; and

• not hold a Research Doctorate degree or an equivalent research qualification; and

• not previously have held an Australian Government-funded postgraduate research scholarship, unless it was terminated within six months of the scholarship's payments commencing; and

• not be receiving an equivalent award, scholarship or salary providing a benefit greater than 75% of the APA stipend rate to undertake the HDR. Income earned from sources unrelated to the course of study is not subject to the 75% rule.

Domestic fee waiver scholarships cover course fees for domestic students and vary in value from course to course.

Schoolarship Title: Northern Research Futures Collaborative Research Network Scholarships

Be a part of Australia's Northern Research Future – Exciting PhD Opportunities

Charles Darwin University is calling for Expressions of Interest for PhD Scholarships under the Collaborative Network Program with partners the Australian National University, James Cook University and the Australian Institute of Marine Science.

Charles Darwin University's Research Standing

Research is a major strength of Charles Darwin University, focused on environment, human health and well-being, Indigenous knowledges and social and public policy.

Research by both staff and postgraduate students is mostly applied and targeted at significant real-world problems in northern Australia and Asia.

Research results provide input to public policy formulation, private sector decision-making, and the work of Non-Government Organisations. Publications from this research contribute to the development of academic disciplines both in Australia and internationally.

The quality of research at CDU has been recognised in the 2010 SciMago World Report which ranks CDU at the top of the Australian University sector on the quality of publications, with 63.41% of CDU's outputs (2004-2008) appearing in the top quartile of ranked journals.

On the measure of normalised citations, the 2010 SciMago World Report ranks CDU 13th in the Australian University sector.

Most recently (Oct 2011) Times Higher Education has also placed CDU at number 13 in the rankings of Australian universities.

The Commonwealth Government's Excellence in Research for Australia (ERA) initiative saw CDU receive scores of four out of a maximum of five in several research areas: Environmental Science and Management, Zoology, Agriculture and Veterinary Sciences, Medical Microbiology and Clinical Sciences.

As further evidence of the University's standing in environmental research in Australia, a recent analysis of Australia's and New Zealand's top research institutions for Environmental Sciences and Ecology by Thomson Reuters placed CDU fourth in Australia and 123rd in the world for research quality.

Northern Research Futures Network

Charles Darwin University, the Australian National University, James Cook University and the Australian Institute of Marine Sciences have been funded under the Australian Government's Collaborative Research Network to form a partnership that creates a national program of collaborative social, coastal/marine and environmental research in the north Australian region.

Primarily located at Charles Darwin University, this collaboration will build on the existing strengths and relationships to establish a research focus on issues of national importance that face northern Australia and its immediate regional neighbours.

PhD Scholarships

To assist in the development of this capacity, the Collaborative Research Network has up to 7 PhD scholarships, valued at $33,000 per annum, available to high quality candidates who wish to contribute to a cross-disciplinary understanding of the impacts of migration, urbanisation and industrialisation on northern Australia's environmental resources.

Supervision will be drawn from across the partner institutions to provide a high-quality training environment that will enable scholars to achieve high standards of success in their chosen fields whilst contributing to the future planning and development of northern Australia.

Where appropriate, candidates may consider a joint PhD degree experience with both Charles Darwin University and the Australian National University, benefiting from the opportunity to spend time studying at both universities. Scholarship opportunities may also be provided through the Cairns Institute at James Cook University, Cairns.

Applicants should have completed a Bachelors degree (Hons, 1st Class or 2A) or a Masters degree with a significant research component; or demonstrated equivalence.

Tenure is for three years fulltime, subject to satisfactory progress.

Key Research Themes

The Collaborative Research Network has two key theme areas in which it is seeking to generate future capacity:

    Urbanisation, infrastructure development and social impacts

    Population movement follows (and creates) infrastructure development and job creation.

    The current national debate about the growth of regional cities offers the Northern Research Futures Network a unique opportunity to begin to track and evaluate such growth demands and challenges.

    Some of these include:

the impact of urbanisation and industrialisation such as mining, refining and LNG; expansion of port, road and rail infrastructure; protection of Indigenous cultures; and the realisation of the National Broadband Network, on regional Australia.

    Migration, security and climate change

    The expansion of urbanization and infrastructure development will result in increased migration to northern Australia.

    The resulting impact on the environment needs to be better understood to inform development of public policy and regulation that will enable government to support migration whilst ensuring the environmental sustainability of Australia's northern resources.

    The protection of biodiversity and the impact of climate change will be explored in the context of future exploitation of northern Australian natural resources.

Gowrie Trust Scholarship opportunity

Scholarship Title: The Gowrie Trust Scholarship

Field of study: All

Value: A$4,000 per annum

Duration: Up to two years

Eligibility: Australian Citizen

Purpose

In accordance with the Trust Deed, Gowrie Scholarhips will be awarded to members of the Forces and children of members of the Forces, including, in the discretion of the Trustees, grandchildren or other lineal descendants of such members. Please see here for further information.

Selection basis

The scholarship will be open to any Australian citizen but preference will be given to past and present members of the Australian Armed Forces and their lineal descendants with special consideration being given to a lineal descendant of a member of the Australian Armed Forces who died or has died as a result of any occurrence happening in the Second World War of subsequent wars in which the Australian Armed Forces are or have been involved.

ANU University Research Scholarship opportunity

Scholarship Title: ANU University Research Scholarship

The University funds a number of scholarships for Doctor of Philosophy or Professional Doctorate by research.

Field of study: All

Value: A$24,653 (2013 rate) per annum tax free, in fortnightly payments

Duration: Three years full-time, with a possible six-month extension

Other benefits

A scholar who is resident elsewhere in Australia or who is permanently residing outside Australia at the time of application, is eligible to receive the following contributions towards the costs of moving to Canberra to take up the Scholarship:

    Travel expenses up to a maximum amount equivalent to the one way economy class or student fare by the cheapest and most direct course on a scheduled route for the scholar, spouse and/or dependent children, on production of original tax invoice/receipts.

    A grant towards the costs of removal of belongings to Canberra, of up to $530 per adult, and $262 per child with a maximum of $1,530 per family on production of original tax invoice/receipts.

Eligibility

Bachelors degree with first-class honours, or a research Masters degree from a recognised university; Australian and New Zealand Citizen; Permanent Residents of Australia; International students. Applicants must have submitted an Application for Admission to the ANU.
