Background


The MDG Achievement Fund (MDG-F) is a United Nations resource that finances and supports national efforts to accelerate progress on the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). Established in 2007 with a contribution from the Spanish Government to the United Nations system, the MDG-F supports national governments, local authorities and citizen organizations in their efforts to tackle poverty and inequality.

Our goals are to:


  •     Positively impact the status of the MDGs and tackle inequality
  •     Increase national ownership and civil society participation
  •     Improve aid effectiveness by building on the collective strength of the United Nations.
  • The MDG-F supports 130 JPs in 50 countries around the world focusing on 8 thematic areas namely gender equality, youth employment, economic governance, culture and development, conflict prevention, environment, child nutrition and private sector.

  • Communication and Advocacy is one of the MDG Funds three global driving strategies and has been identified as a key priority both for reasons of accountability of a large global fund of this nature, but also as a means to advance and advocate for the MDGs.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • The purpose of this intern ship is to support the MDG-F Secretariat in its communication activities to disseminate results and lessons learned from its 130 joint programmes across the world
  • The required tasks to be performed to support the Communications and Advocacy analyst include:
  •     Manage photo and video libraries.
  •     Provide graphic design support to produce posters, fact sheets, presentations…
  •     Support social media and web management, including drafting Facebook and Twitter entries, preparing analytics report.
  •     Provide video editing support, to elaborate short videos from existing footage.
  •     Produce written content for brochures, reports, web or other MDG-F communication vehicles.

Required Skills and Experience

Eligibility

  •     Enrolled in a degree programme in a graduate school (second university degree or higher) at the time of application and during the internship (if a candidate is graduating before the internship period begins, they are no longer eligible); or
  •     Have completed at least four years of full-time studies at a university or equivalent institution towards the completion of a degree, if pursuing their studies in countries where higher education is not divided into undergraduate and graduate stages;
  •     Not to have graduated prior to the beginning of the internship.

Experience:

    Knowledge of Photoshop, InDesign, and other major graphic applications.
    Basic video editing skills.

Language:

  •     Proficiency in English; Spanish is an asset.
  •     Excellent writing skills.

Interns are not financially remunerated by UNDP.

The purpose of the Internship Programme is not to lead to further employment with UNDP but to complement an intern’s studies. Therefore, there should be no expectation of employment at the end of an internship.

    A letter of endorsement from a senior faculty member who has directly supervised the student in the recent past and who is fully acquainted with the student's performance; and
    A brief paper setting out the reasons why he/she is seeking an internship with UNDP and what is expected from the experience.
