About the Organization:
MicroCredit Enterprises (MCE) is a social venture that leverages private guarantees to provide loan capital
to MFIs worldwide. It launched its lending operations in 2006. MCE focuses on institutions serving rural clients, preferably women, with a strong social commitment.

About the Job:
MCE is seeking a Director of Finance and Operations. S/he will manage organization's financial and operational activities which include treasury management, accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, managing lender relationships, risk management, and fundraising. The position will be based in San Francisco, CA or Washington, DC and will report to the CEO.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

    Financial management:
        Institutional finance and treasury:

  •             Manage assets and liabilities to ensure the organization is optimizing profit while maintaining adequate liquidity;
  •             Manage lender relationships and ensure all obligations with lenders are met;
  •             Seek and negotiate new sources of financing;
  •             Monitor and ensure that all payments due by MFIs are received as scheduled;
  •             Manage accounting and settlement of derivative products for foreign currency transactions.
  •         Accounting:
  •             Oversee all accounting practices and conduct bookkeeping functions;
  •             Create, enforce, and update as needed, accounting policies and internal controls;
  •             Manage annual audit process and annual tax filing.
  •         Create annual budget and manage adherence to budget throughout the year;
  •         Forecasting and analysis:
  •             Produce monthly financial reports and analysis;
  •             Support CEO with long-term strategic planning and financial modeling.
  •         Reporting and compliance:
  •             Ensure that all reports required by lenders, board, regulators, tax authorities, and donors are produced and disseminated as required;
  •             Manage annual state charitable registrations with external law firm;
  •             Present financial updates at regular Board meetings and ad hoc, as required.
  •         Represent MCE at relevant investor conferences, as required.
  •     Risk management:
  •         Create structures and processes to manage overall institutional risk, including:
  •             Diversification of funding sources;
  •             Asset-liability maturity management and currency exposures.
  •         Work closely with portfolio team to:
  •             Highlight key risks prior to investment committee presentations;
  •             Provide input on structuring and pricing of loans to MFIs;
  •             Develop and implement tools needed to effectively measure and control risk.
  •     Operations management:
  •         Guarantor relations:
  •             Manage guarantor reporting and collection of information;
  •             Manage collections process with guarantors when necessary;
  •             Work with guarantor liaison on guarantor recruitment, as needed.
  •         Administrative and HR:
  •             Oversee payroll process and reporting, purchase and renewal of insurance policies, and company benefits program;
  •             Maintain organization’s legal standing and comply with all legal filing requirements.
  •         Miscellaneous:
  •             Manage special projects and interns;
  •             Act as staff liaison to finance and operations board committee.

Qualifications:


  •     Bachelor's degree. MBA or CPA preferred;
  •     Minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience;
  •     Demonstrated ability and willingness to manage a range of functions, from high level interactions with creditors and the board down to bookkeeping entries;
  •     Thorough knowledge of Excel and ability to create financial models and forecasts;
  •     Experience with QuickBooks preferred;
  •     Experience in accounting for non-profits and foreign currency derivative instruments preferred;
  •     Ability to negotiate and manage credit facilities with commercial and philanthropic lenders;
  •     Strong organizational skills; detail oriented, with demonstrated ability to manage extensive reporting and compliance requirements;
  •     US work authorization required.
