About the Job:
WWB is seeking a Microinsurance Manager. S/he will provide strategic direction and manage all insurance related engagements. S/he will work closely with the director of microfinance products.
Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Manage organization's microinsurance program by leading the implementation of the Caregiver hospital cash and savings-linked products in multiple markets, including support for partner institutions on market/client research, product design, insurance partner selection and negotiation, product piloting and rollout, and conducting feasibility studies of the Caregiver product as well as savings-linked insurance products in targeted markets;
- Lead the development of strategies for microfinance products not yet in the pipeline by working with the research staff to identify potential products/needs, develop internal proposals for potential new products, present/justify proposals as needed and identify resources (human, dollars, other resources);
- Contribute to marketing/fundraising activities by codifying information gleaned through project implementation activities for inclusion in organization's communications where appropriate and participate in fundraising activities for the microfinance products as well as the overall organization;
- Ensure compliance with budgetary/procurement policies by creating realistic budget, spending to plan, being able to justify variances as needed, participating with the project coordinator and compliance associate in monitoring purchases/other procurements and meeting all organization standards;
- Manage/coach/direct a team of internal/external staff to complete tasks in a timely/accurate manner while monitoring the quality/quantity of work produced;
- Within the first 4 weeks:
- Learn and comprehend the WWB business model and financial needs;
- Become trained in and fully integrate the use of organization's systems and policies into day-to-day activities.
- Within the first 10 weeks:
- Transition into lead for current insurance projects and proposals;
- Assume the relationships of existing partnerships and clients.
- Within the first year:
- Identify and develop opportunities for strategic alliances, which leverage the strengths of all participants and allow organization to simultaneously advance its mission and expand its funding base;
- Support the implementation of the organization’s 2014-2016 strategic plan and the accompanying financial plan required to deliver the strategy;
- Develop a multiyear investment and growth strategy for organization's microinsurance program, identifying key regions for expansion and measurements for impact.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Development Economics or related subject;
- More than 10 years of experience in the insurance field, direct experience in microinsurance a plus;
- Track record of successfully managing microinsurance projects, strategic alliances and partnerships, and consultants/cross-functional teams;
- Success working in an entrepreneurial environment where limited resources are leveraged to produce maximum results;
- Success working with organizational leadership, using their time and resources on a selective basis;
- Fluency in English required, Spanish/French a plus;
- Strong strategic and analytical skills;
- Strong organizational capabilities;
- Ability to establish credibility with board members, co-workers, and other constituencies of the organization;
- Experience in promoting women’s economic issues highly desirable.
