DIRECTOR OF MARKETING-GLOBAL MINISTRIES directs marketing communications efforts
for
Global Ministries across all platforms with emphasis on the mission
priorities of Global Ministries: missionaries, young adults, and mission
initiatives. The Director of Marketing provides strategic short and
long-term vision for those initiatives and provides leadership,
management oversight, and technical direction to staff focused on these
areas. He/she serves as the primary representative for marketing
communications projects and acts as key liaison to staff overseeing
Global Ministries’ international, regional, and national mission work.
Qualified candidates must have knowledge of best practices in marketing
communications. The ability to partner with units within the Board and
key external stakeholders is required.
The Position •
Ensure the overall quality and execution of assigned marketing
communications projects to strengthen the Board’s identity and to engage
United Methodists in the Board’s work at the local, regional, national,
and international levels.
• Oversee Global Ministries’ event presence in consultation with relevant staff and units.
•
Develop, execute and evaluate marketing communications plans with an
emphasis on reaching local United Methodist churches and annual
(regional) conferences.
• Provide strategic leadership and technical direction for assigned communications and marketing products.
•
Provide overall direction, coordination, and management to
communication staff through technical leadership, supportive
supervision, mentoring, and coaching. Ensure efficient and high quality
practices, including compliance with protocols.
• Communicate all
relevant protocols regarding brand identity of Global Ministries and
educate staff regarding adherence to standards of the brand.
• By
participating in the unit’s leadership team, ensure that the Global
Ministries marketing and web strategy is in line with the efforts of
UMCOR, the content team, development team and creative team in order to
help prioritize content for editorial calendar, help prioritize
fundraising needs for Global Ministries and ensure that print and other
media production deadlines are able to support content and development
priorities.
• Participate in organizational development and
internal technical working groups to develop thematic content and
marketing priorities. Disseminate up-to-date communications and
marketing policies, procedures and practices.
• Direct the marketing efforts of Global Ministries-related Special Sundays
•
Oversee, directly and/or through subordinate staff, Global Ministries’
relationship with annual (regional) conferences and conference mission
personnel
• Direct efforts to equip United Methodist missionaries
with communications resources; lead communications trainings upon
request in collaboration with communications staff
• Monitor annual Global Ministries promotional budget(s) and provide budget recommendations

Human Resources Management. Conduct performance reviews, participate in
the hiring process of team members, and provide other human resources
management as related to the team. Facilitate corrective action if
needed.
• Monitoring and Evaluation. Draft high quality internal
and external results-focused reports. Oversee the timely gathering of
data for reporting regarding impact of marketing and communications
efforts.
Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree required
with emphasis in communications or marketing desired; minimum of five
years of experience in marketing, communications or journalism;
•
At least two years’ direct supervisory experience required with
preference for experience leading multidisciplinary, multicultural
teams. -Strong project and budget management skills required.
•
Excellent team leadership, team working and relationship building skills
with the ability to develop positive working relations across functions
and cultures.
• Ability to use appropriate management tools to ensure effective running of programs, staff management and development.
• Fluency in English required, with excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Strong communication and representation and negotiation skills with excellent spoken and written English.
• Knowledge of data collection methods and data analysis skills.
• Fundraising skills (grants, solicitations, and networking) a plus.
• Thorough understanding of the United Methodist Church and a desire to champion its theology of mission
