About the Job:
FINCA is seeking a Headquarters Assistant Controller. S/he will supervise and oversee the headquarters general accounting and grant accounting staff. The position is based in Washington, DC.
Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Assist with the preparation of financial statements in accordance with US Gaap and/or IFRS, and assist in financial statements consolidation process;
- Lead the stand alone FINCA entities financial statements audit process including A-133;
- Submit monthly consolidation reporting packages for all US entities;
- Ensure proper reconciliation of balance sheet and income state accounts on monthly basis;
- Ensure all proper accounting entries have been recorded in accordance with accounting standards;
- Enforce compliance with internal controls;
- Update HQ accounting policy manual;
- Address technical accounting issues and provide timely and responsive solutions to business issues;
- Ensure the Inter-company process is in alignment with policy and properly executed;
- Perform regulatory, statutory, tax, and statistical compliance reporting;
- Recruit, supervise, and train accounting staff;
- Communicate with and provide direction to all levels of functional departments regarding finance policies and procedures;
- Assist the finance and treasury department with special projects and other activities as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Undergraduate degree in Accounting, Business or Finance;
- CPA and/or MBA are highly desirable;
- Minimum of 10 years of operational accounting/finance experience, including 2 to 3 years in a controller level role;
- Experience with CostPoint/Deltek including multi-currency module desirable;
- Experience preparing accurate, detailed, and auditable records;
- Computer literacy is required, in particular using spreadsheets;
- Analytical, reasoning, and problem solving skills;
- Implement changes (proven record of implementing significant performance changes);
- Management and team leadership experience;
- Strong communications skills (speaking, writing, presentations);
- Experience in and familiarity with financial services and/or the microfinance industry is desirable;
- Experience working in the emerging markets and/or other international experience an asset;
- English required, Spanish or French a bonus.
