About the Job:
Global Communities is seeking a Program Financial Analyst to join its development finance team at the headquarters in downtown Silver Spring, Maryland.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

  •     Compile monthly financial and loan portfolio data and manage proprietary internal database to include:
  •         Manage the timely collection of monthly and quarterly portfolio and financial information and ratios, including expeditiously identifying need for data collection and reconciliation;
  •         Lead review and analysis of financial and loan portfolio data for the purpose of interpreting performance of all MFI/SME affiliates;
  •         Liaise with field to obtain timely and accurate data to include working with the Software Development Services (SDS) unit and its Management Information System (MIS), WebAbacus software, driving needed changes/updates to the system;
  •         Perform proactive and in-depth analysis of financial statements, portfolio quality, and ratio trend reports, in addition to external industry reports;
  •         Inform technical staff and management of anomalies or issues related to reports;
  •         Work with risk management indicators and assist department with analyzing trends across institutions;
  •         Provide support to the testing and further development of the network portfolio management system.
  •     Provide reporting to internal and external stakeholders to include:
  •         In consultation with managers, prepare and distribute monthly and quarterly management reports for internal use, as well as additional reports for external parties (including Global Communities and Vitas Group boards of directors, investors, donors, government, and other private entities);
  •         Work with field staff to obtain accurate financial information, and make adjustments where appropriate, according to GAAP or IFRS accounting standards, depending upon the report;
  •         Draft regular credit reports for use within headquarters and network.
  •     Provide technical assistance and relationship management support for development finance institution field staff, as well as selected SME and housing finance projects to include:
  •         Develop and implement portfolio management tools for the network as needed;
  •         Develop and deliver capacity building programs;
  •         Serve on credit committees;
  •         Serve as point of contact for administrative and finance issues with stakeholders including funds and donor organizations, and prime contractors;
  •         Support negotiations with potential and existing investors and donors;
  •         Prepare information briefs, presentations, and other resources for both internal and external audiences;
  •         Provide business development support to development finance programs and institutions;
  •         Draft sections of business plans, technical and cost proposals as needed;
  •         Provide support in areas of financial modeling and forecasting for strategic and business plans and company valuations.
  •     Maintain both Global Communities' development finance and Vitas Group policy manuals;
  •     Undertake all other duties and projects as may be assigned.

Qualifications:

  •     Bachelor’s in Finance, Business, Banking, Economics, International Development, or related field. Significant coursework in finance, accounting and financial analysis necessary;
  •     Master’s in relevant field preferred. Coursework in microfinance a plus;
  •     Minimum 5 years of experience collecting and analyzing financial data. Prior exposure to or experience in the microfinance industry highly desired;
  •     Equivalent combination of education and experience;
  •     Ability to produce flawless, accurate, and timely reports with attention to detail;
  •     Strong financial analysis, accounting (GAAP/IFRS), and forecasting skills needed. Familiarity with microfinance business modeling tools is a plus;
  •     Proven ability to work with large amounts of data in Excel spreadsheets and Access, including pivot tables, in addition to database management;
  •     Ability to relate and communicate effectively internationally;
  •     Fluency in English, written and oral. Abilities in a second language, preferably Arabic, Spanish, a Eurasian language, or French desired;
  •     Advanced computer skills in a Windows based environment including Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel;
  •     Familiarity with additional microfinance industry-specific guidelines and information banks (MIX, CGAP) a plus;
  •     Ability to work under pressure, handle multiple tasks simultaneously, and meet deadlines;
  •     Ability to read and interpret documents, sit at a computer, and operate a keyboard and mouse for extended periods of time;
  •     Knowledge of Soloman, QuickBooks or SAGE/Peachtree a plus;
  •     US work authorization.
