ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The Director of Philanthropy (DOP) in Georgia is responsible for the major gift fundraising operations for the Georgia chapter. As one of 50 state chapters of The Nature Conservancy, Georgia is considered to be a large wealth market. The chapter has fundraising goals which range from $2 million to $10 million per year.

The DOP is responsible for the oversight, planning and implementation of a comprehensive development program that secures significant financial resources from foundations, corporations, and individuals within the state/country to support conservation goals around the world. This position manages all major gifts functions, which includes major gift identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship; planned giving; principal gift solicitation; donor prospecting and research; and special multi-year fundraising campaigns. The DOP works with senior staff to establish Global, North American, Whole System and State-Based fundraising goals and is accountable for these goals. The DOP is responsible for managing a medium sized team and is responsible for hiring, managing, and establishing fundraising goals for all members. The DOP is responsible for motivating and coordinating the efforts of a multi- disciplinary staff team and volunteers, including board members and philanthropy committee members. The DOP is personally responsible for moving a select group of prospects. The DOP must focus on long-range strategic priorities, advance the Conservancy's goals, and communicate a broad vision to others. The DOP understands and complies with all TNC gift-related policies and procedures and ensures ethical compliance, as defined by the Association for Fundraising Professionals. TNC

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  •     Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications or related field and at least 7 years' fundraising experience.
  •     Experience managing and supervising a large multi-disciplinary team.
  •     Experience working with current and evolving trends in major gifts giving and solicitation.
  •     Experience, coursework, or other training in current trends in charitable giving, particularly in the areas of capital campaigns, major gifts and planned giving. Working knowledge or ability to learn basics of charitable gift planning.
  •     Experience in asking for and closing major gifts.
  •     Experience building and maintaining long-term relationships with fundraising constituents such as major donors, foundations and corporations.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  •     Extensive management experience including ability to motivate, lead, set objectives and manage performance of a large multi-disciplinary team.
  •     Ability to foster an environment of creativity and professional growth.
  •     Expert knowledge of current and evolving trends in major gifts giving and solicitation and capital campaigns.
  •     Working and effective understanding of the basics of charitable gift planning. Knowledge of more advanced gift planning concepts a plus.
  •     Superb communication and presentation skills.
