The Internship position is located in the Office of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Children and Armed Conflict (OSRSG-CAAC) and will focus on public information and outreach activities of the OSRSG-CAAC. The Internship will be for a period of three months, as soon as possible through the end of November 2013. The internship is UNPAID and full-time. Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the office to which they are assigned.

Responsibilities

Under the overall supervision of a Team Leader or supervisor, the Intern will perform the following duties:

    Assist with the Offices' efforts, through communications, to build awareness and support for the advocacy work of the SRSG including with Member States, donors, media and the policy community;
    Provide support in tasks including media monitoring and analysis, drafting and editing of content for print, web and multimedia, events and publications;
    Assist with OSRSG-CAAC's website and social media;
    Assist in organizing special events at the UN focussing on CAAC related themes;
    Undertake other assignments as required.

Education

    Applicants must be enrolled in a degree programme in a graduate school (second university degree or higher) in the field of communications, journalism, public relations or in a related field;
    or if pursuing their studies in countries where higher education is not divided into undergraduate and graduate stages, have completed at least four years of full-time studies at a university or equivalent institution towards the completion of a degree.

Work Experience

    Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the Internship Programme.

Languages

  •     English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
  •     For the post, fluency in English (both oral and written) is required.
  •     Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.
