The Development department is a part of the External Relations division. Development's core purpose is to provide leadership, strategy and direction to create a sustainable and innovative fundraising model that will attract an ever-increasing level of private support from individuals, corporations, and foundations.

This Development staff position is responsible for contributing to the overall growth of the Major Gifts and Planned Giving program within PATH's Development department. This position reports to the Director of Major Gifts and Planned Giving and works collaboratively and strategically with the Chief Development Officer and other fundraising professionals, program staff, and campaign leaders.

Duties and Responsibilities

  •     Serve as a member of the Development team, which is responsible for helping PATH achieve its mission through private philanthropic support.
  •     Develop, prioritize, and implement individual and group cultivation and solicitation strategies and stewardship activities for donors and prospects.
  •     Manage a portfolio of 200 primary prospects giving $10,000+ in the San Francisco Bay Area as the primary territory. Candidate will be expected to identify, qualify, strategize, cultivate, solicit and steward these individuals.
  •     Manage assigned prospects and their engagement with PATH in the primary territory. Travel throughout the primary territory for donor cultivation purposes. Manage prospects in distant markets as secondary territories.

    Work closely with other Development staff on the development of the annual fund and fundraising events. Participate in and provide support for Development events. Represent PATH at community events, including after-hours activities in the primary territory.
    Monitor contacts to ensure positive and purposeful prospect and donor relations.
    Must be a highly energetic professional with a track record of building donor relationships and closing gifts in the six-figure range.

Required Skills

  •     Five to seven years successful experience in major or planned gifts.
  •     Experience must include multi-functional, well-rounded fundraising experience in developing major gifts from corporations, foundations, and primarily high net worth individuals.
  •     Interest in all aspects of global health and a dedication to promoting the organization's fundraising priorities through the development of excellent relationships with program staff, senior leadership, board and Development Committee members, volunteers, and the Development team.
  •     Ability to understand the needs and interests of leadership and major gift donors in order to strengthen relationships between the gift prospect and the organization.
  •     Successful experience in making cold calls as well as developing cultivation and solicitation strategies.
  •     Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  •     Strong proficiency in both written and oral communication skills.
  •     Excellent interpersonal and social skills and ability to work with a diverse community.
  •     Competency and proficiency in the use of computers including knowledge of databases, spreadsheets, word processing, the internet, and email.
  •     Excellent organizational and problem solving skills, and proficiency in meeting deadlines.
  •     Commitment to the mission of the PATH and the institution's core values.
  •     Must be willing to travel.

Required

Experience Bachelor's (B.A. or B.S.) degree from an accredited four-year college or university, as well as at least 5-7 years of demonstrated successful fundraising experience/campaign experience in a diversity of fundraising environments. Diversified experience with large non-profits in the global health field, international development and/or social entrepreneurship is desirable, as well as an advanced degree.
