The Asia Foundation's Digital Media and Technology Programs (DMTP) unit seeks a Junior Associate (JA) to work in its San Francisco, CA office during the fall of 2013. The DMTP JA will work primarily with the Information Communication Technology (ICT) Program Coordinator, but will also work closely with other DMTP staff, field offices, and the Foundation's local partners to aid in the development of technology solutions targeting specific development challenges, and support outreach to donors and partners.
During the 12-week program, the Junior Associate will:
Take an active role in the DMTP's major initiative of developing an online election information database in Indonesia; and
Support the rollout/implementation of other DMTP and field ICT for Development projects, investigate private and public funding opportunities in the ICT for Development sector, and support outreach to potential donors and partners.
Deliverables
Deliverables will include (but not be limited to):
Developing a developer outreach strategy for application development in Jakarta in support of the API/database project;
Designing and developing two ICT-focused project concept notes that are suitable for fundraising;
Participating in at least two public sector proposal development efforts; and
Publishing at least one blog article.
Qualifications
In addition to the general qualifications required of all Junior Associates the ideal DMTP Junior Associate will have experience or interest in:
Technical:
- Initiating and contributing to open source projects.
- Managing and manipulating data.
- Designing and implementing a web API and applications that use web APIs.
Programmatic:
- Interest in international development policy / international relations.
- Exposure to development projects in Asia, Africa, and/or Latin America.
- Strong communications skills in both written and oral.
