Background / General description:
The Portfolio and Operational Risk Department (CPM), under the Risk Management and Portfolio Vice Presidency, is responsible for risk oversight of IFC’s investment portfolio, operational risk, project and corporate insurance, and business continuity.
Department’s divisions work closely with the regional-based Portfolio Managers to promote introduction of best portfolio management practices and tools, and early identification of business issues and needs, while the Risk units provide guidance and advice to IFC staff and management, and develop and implement solutions to mitigate these risks. In this context, Operational Risk Division works closely with both new business and portfolio investment officers and managers, to deliver risk mitigation through a variety of insurance products.
The Department is looking to hire a Manager to lead operational risk division, to bring together best-in-class risk mitigation of operational risk in all IFC businesses – investment operations, treasury, advisory operations and AMC.
Duties and Accountabilities:
The Manager will be a member of the CPM Leadership Team. Duties and accountabilities include:
Business Accountabilities:
-Lead a team of 10 professionals located in headquarters, to deliver best-in-class and operationally relevant operational risk and business continuity solutions to the Corporation;
-Lead all corporate work related to the Internal Audit of the WBG and its impact on IFC;
-Oversee the corporate business continuity division, ensuring that IFC needs in business continuity, at all levels of the organizations, are met;
-Proactively manage corporate business continuity budget for IFC;
-Substantively contribute to departmental, corporate, and World Bank Group’s efforts and initiatives, including but not limited to the portfolio reviews across IFC, risk appetite setting of the Corporation, annual strategy Road Map, and others.
Relationship Management and Knowledge Management:
-Create and maintain strong relationships with a number of constituencies across IFC, including but not limited to new business managers, portfolio managers, country managers, AMC staff, Treasury, Controllers, risk VPU colleagues and others across IFC;
-Ensure that clients’ needs are met promptly and proactively.
Selection Criteria:
•Master’s degree in finance or business or equivalent professional qualification and a minimum of 12 years professional, relevant experience;
•Recent in-depth experience as an investment officer in IFC investment operations, preferably including investment experience in financial markets;
•Good working knowledge and understanding of Basel principles and operational risk management in financial institutions;
•Reliable, trustworthy, diplomatic and tactful;
•Highest standards of ethics, integrity and transparency;
•Outgoing personality, able to “sell” value add of operational risk in an unregulated financial institution, and excellent networking skills across the Corporation and with colleagues in similar roles in DFIs and commercial banks;

•Ability to develop and manage relationships with a number of internal and external constituencies, including management of complex relationships, ability to develop successful relationships within IFC at all levels;
•Excellent management skills, teamwork and interpersonal skills and ability to interact effectively across the matrix, proven track record in managing teams in effective work groups in a service-oriented setting;
•Ability to manage and resolve conflict;
•Recognized by the institution as a team player and leader and good people manager;
•Ability to deliver high quality work within deadlines and meet or exceed team objectives;
•Ability to develop innovative solutions to build the business, ability to think “out of the box” and design and deliver new client-oriented solutions;
