Innovations for Poverty Action (IPA), is an international non-profit research organization. Based in New Haven, CT, with offices in Washington, D.C. and worldwide, IPA works with development partners and academic researchers to create and evaluate approaches to solving development problems, to communicate “what works” in development and to scale up successful projects in a variety of fields, including health, education, microfinance, governance and agriculture.
About the Deworm the World Initiative
Deworm the World Initiative (DtWI) actively supports the scale-up of school-based deworming programs worldwide to improve children’s health, education, and long-term development. School-based deworming is proven to be an extremely effective intervention with tangible health, education, labor productivity and earnings benefits, and is one of the most cost-effective methods of increasing overall school attendance and participation in endemic countries. DtWI is operated in partnership with IPA.
DtWI has helped to treat over 43 million children across 27 countries since 2009. DtWI expands school-based deworming by supporting governments to launch, strengthen and sustain national/statewide programs, and provides direct technical assistance to plan, implement and evaluate deworming campaigns. DtWI currently has field teams based in Kenya and India.
Position Summary
The Program Coordinator will provide support for the scale up of school-based deworming by assisting DtWI management in a variety of operational, financial, and administrative contexts. Reporting to the DtWI Associate Director for Global Operations and Analysis, the Program Coordinator will work closely with other DtWI team members and IPA Headquarters staff. This position requires a high degree of self-direction, excellent communication and organizational skills, and strong analytical capabilities.
Responsibilities
- Provide program management support including assisting in the preparation of reports and deliverables; editing and proofreading documents; coordinating meetings and schedules; and preparing PowerPoint presentations.
- Monitor program tracking systems, and assist in the development and implementation of initiative systems, policies, procedures, and knowledge sharing platform.
- Support grant administration and reporting under the guidance of DtWI’s Associate Director for Global Operations and Analysis and in collaboration with IPA’s Grants Administration team.
- Aid in review of financial and expenditure reports to ensure complete and accurate reporting across programs and donors.
- Support development of and updates to program and initiative budgets, financial plans, and financial reports.
- Support hiring of DtWI staff by facilitating job description posting, processing intake of candidate documentation, maintaining applicant database, and providing initial assessment of candidates against stated job requirements.
- Draft consulting agreements and serve as primary liaison with consultants on administrative issues.
- Coordinate administration of DtWI agreements, sub-awards, and contracts, including processing of invoices and payments for consultants and vendors, in coordination with IPA Headquarters staff.
- Maintain comprehensive, up-to-date electronic filing system for all DtWI programs and global activities.
- Problem solve as issues arise, engaging relevant team members to coordinate timely responses and actions.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum 2-3 years work experience, with related responsibilities and/or international development context.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Strong project management and administration abilities.
- Experience in developing and tracking budgets, and familiarity with financial management concepts and tools.
- Ability to manage multiple competing deadlines and priorities with minimal supervision.
- Strong attention to detail and proven organizational skills.
- High level of computer literacy including MS Office Suite and specifically MS Excel.
- Bachelor’s degree required, advanced degree preferred.
