Background

As part of its mission to assist developing countries to positively influence global trends and benefit from global knowledge, the Bureau for Development Policy (BDP) UNDP's policy advisory body supports UNDP transformation into a globally networked policy advisory organization.
The Global Thematic Programme on Anti-corruption for Development Effectiveness (PACDE)
PACDE is UNDP's major vehicle through which it responds to the growing demand for technical assistance in anti-corruption. PACDE's main objective is to provide policy coherence and coordinate programming support to countries through UNDP Country Offices and Regional Service Centres. PACDE supports interventions at global, regional and country levels in order to promote national ownership, capacity development, effective aid management and South-South cooperation in addressing corruption and fostering democratic governance. Its support includes:
Providing technical and advisory support to countries to develop anti-corruption programmes;
strengthening the capacity of UNDP and its partners and developing sustainable interventions;
enabling media and citizen oversight of government through social accountability initiatives;
coordinating UNDP anti-corruption interventions at country, regional and global levels;
providing information and cutting-edge knowledge products on emerging issues such as climate change, illicit financial flows, corruption in specific sectors; and
Documenting lessons learned as part of an effort to contribute to anti-corruption knowledge and improve results on impact of anti-corruption initiatives.
The Internship with PACDE provides an opportunity to acquire direct exposure to UNDP's work. It is designed to complement development/governance -oriented studies with practical experience in various aspects of multilateral technical cooperation. The intern will support the PACDE Network Facilitation Team in maintaining the high quality of network knowledge products while also allowing for in-depth research on a variety of topics related anti-corruption. In addition, the Intern will be exposed to UNDP's Knowledge Management approach and will participate in the development of a new knowledge management platform for anti-corruption practitioners.
Working under the direct supervision of the PACDEs Facilitator and Research Analyst, the incumbent will be responsible for supporting the following areas of the Community of Practice: communications, research and codification of existing knowledge products.
Duties and Responsibilities
The intern will support the following key areas:
Communications:
In this area, the responsibilities of the Intern will include:
drafting and editing communication materials, including newsletters, articles and online communications for the public website and for the internal audience;
staying well-informed with current developments and resources for inclusion in the Anti-corruption for Development News update.
Document management and maintenance of PACDE's knowledge management platform:
The intern will support the process of systematizing corruption and anti-corruption-related content relevant for PACDE's knowledge management and information platforms. Particularly, the intern will support the development of the new anti-corruption for development web portal that aims to serve as the cutting-edge portal focusing on the nexus between anti-corruption and sustainable human development.
Support the global anti-corruption community of practice in mapping external knowledge, expertise and resources that help to capture lessons learned case studies and good practices related to anti-corruption interventions.
The intern will support PACDE's facilitation Team in the day-to-day operations of the Network by combining responses and conducting comparative research in response to queries from UNDP Country Offices and by assisting in preparation of knowledge products and services. S/he will also be carrying out network data analysis.
Competencies
- Demonstrated excellent writing and communication skills
- Excellent analytical skills; ability to compile and interpret data easily
- Effective at applying web search tools and conventions;
- High degree of knowledge of MS office, internet-based applications;
- Knowledge of social networking and KM2.0 technology is an asset;
- A desire to work with and gain the confidence and respect of people with different language, national and cultural backgrounds
- Respect for the principles of the United Nations Charter and the UNDP's Statement of Purpose
Required Skills and Experience
Interns are selected on a competitive basis. The following minimum qualifications are required:
Education:
Enrolment in a graduate-level degree programme in Economics, Law, Political Science, Development Studies or International Affairs.
Experience:
Prior background or experience in anti-corruption is an asset.
Language Requirements:
Written and spoken proficiency in English. French is desired.
Financial Arrangements:
UNDP does not pay for internships. The costs associated with the internship must be borne by the nominating institution, related institution or government, which may provide the required financial assistance to its students; or by the student, who will have to obtain financing for subsistence and make his or her own arrangements for travel, accommodation etc.
Further Career Opportunities:
The purpose of internships is not to lead to further employment with UNDP but, as mentioned, to complement an intern's studies. However, a number of interns, having completed their studies and met the necessary requirements, have gone on to further assignments with the UNDP or elsewhere in the United Nations system.
