The Microfinance Information Exchange, Inc. (MIX) is a non profit organization incorporated in June 2002, with headquarters in Washington, DC. It is a leading business information provider dedicated to strengthening the microfinance sector. The organization’s core focus is to provide objective data and analysis on microfinance providers. MIX provides detailed financial and social performance information from MFIs, as well as business information from market facilitators and leading donor organizations and investors in microfinance.

About the Job:
MIX is seeking a consultant. S/he will support the development of analytical documents that provide both high-level thought leadership on financial inclusion data as well as more country-specific analysis.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

  •     Evaluating the current structure and format to MIX analytical tools for financial inclusion and providing recommendations for improvement and standardization;
  •     Analyzing MIX financial inclusion data tools to identify key learnings both at a country and global level, focusing on how the data/tools can be used for understanding financial inclusion and supporting decision-making;
  •     Interview key stakeholders in a select group of countries to understand how they use the tools to make decisions and how the tools/processes can be improved;
  •     Gather additional documentation (press clippings, articles, etc.) that support financial inclusion analysis in a given country or at a global level;
  •     Write a series of analytical pieces that will communicate findings from MiX's financial inclusion data aggregation and support the development of a standard financial inclusion analysis framework at MIX. These may include:
  •         Country score-card or dashboard highlighting findings from financial inclusion data sets;
  •         Individual country-focused blog posts describing major findings from new datasets;
  •         Introductory report on the financial inclusion data and tools describing how they can be used and how they can be improved over time (both internally and externally, through greater data availability);
  •         State of the data report that describes financial inclusion data in different countries and how they compare to one another in terms of depth and availability of data.

Qualifications:

  •     Bachelors and/or Masters plus substantial experience in data analysis, financial inclusion or development analysis;
  •     Demonstrated analytical skills and writing capacity;
  •     Experience training/mentoring staff in analytical writing a plus;
  •     Ability to communicate ideas, problems, and questions succinctly to the financial inclusion team.
